ASUS took the wraps of its two new EeeBox PCs at CES last week — the EB1501 and EB1012. Both continue tradition of packing plenty of energy-efficient performance into a compact case, but add some exciting new features that will thrill fans of home theatre PCs.
Both new EeeBox PC models are based on the Intel Atom N330 dual-core processor and have NVIDIA ION graphics, making them capable of outputting Full HD (1080p) video to a compatible display.
HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and SP/DIF ports are standard issue too, making for easy integration into an existing home theatre set-up, while USB 2.0 and eSATA ports provide flexible connection options for external storage devices. And, of course, both models have an optional VESA mount that lets them be hidden away behind a compatible display for an invisible set-up.
The EeeBox PC EB1501 takes the idea of a compact home theatre PC to a new level, too. It’s stylishly rounded case still only has a 1.5l volume, but it now incorporates a slot-loading DVD writer for even greater versatility — and still uses around 70% less power than a typical desktop PC.
ASUS hasn’t made an official announcement on pricing or availability for the EeeBox PC EB1501 and EB1012 yet, but Amazon.com has let slip with a pre-order page for the EB1012, as spotted by Engadget.
