Notebooks are great for getting things done on-the-go, but they rarely complement our sense of style. While there have been several attempts over the past decade to spice up the otherwise drab sea of grey, few have caught the consumers’ imagination.

But there’s hope. The annual Consumer Electronic Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, the tech equivalent of Paris Fashion Week, offers a glimpse of what the future offers. More often than not, we’re treated to a usual mix of exotic materials and out-of-this-world concepts, as recently demonstrated by the ASUS Eee PC Seashell Karim Rashid Collection.

We’ve seen faux-leather, carbon fiber and even bamboo bodied-laptops in every colour this side of the rainbow. But the Eee PC Karim Rashid Collection takes it to another level, with a complex rubber weave that forms its “Digi-Waves” lid. Forget about clean lines and minimalism – the Eee PC Karim Rashid is for the non-conformist, and sports hues named hot pink and matte mocha brown.

Oh, did I mention it’s a capable little computing gem too? It’s got a 10.1-inch LED backlit display, a choice of 250GB and 320GB storage options, wireless connectivity, webcam and built-in mic.
