Corsair recently blogged about how even their own moderately sized, but super-speedy 60GB ‘Force Series’ SSD can speed up a PC, Eee PC or ASUS notebook, and that 60GB really does go further than you think for Windows 7, your programs and even a few games! The Corsair guys managed to pack on seven of the latest games, and even offer up some tips to save some extra space on the drive too!
For those unaware of what makes an ‘SSD’ important – it’s an acronym for solid state drive, a new type of technology that uses special ‘NAND’ memory chips that work very different to the traditional hard disk drive. Unlike a mechanical hard disk that spins a metal platter and moves a tiny read/write head back and forth, SSDs are completely stationary and work entirely electronically. This means there’s no need to wait for the head and spinning disk to move to the right place, making SSD technology super quick!
Most SSDs currently ship in the 2.5 inch format that’s also suitable for notebooks too, and because there’s no moving parts it means SSDs are more durable, cooler and lower power than their normal hard drive counterparts: i.e. perfect for mobile laptops.
Consider then, an upgrade for all your PCs – whether it be notebook, netbook or full-fat powerful gaming computer. In addition, with the latest ASUS motherboards and notebooks supporting USB 3 and Gigabit Ethernet too – even if you do run out of space you can easily plug in a very fast external drive or network storage box to add more space for your digital storage.
SSDs – tech of the future, here today, and compatible with all your current hardware! Lovely!
