ASUS has been all about innovation and exciting new things lately, many of them hybrid devices that can do everything except wake you in the morning with a nice cup of tea. So, today I was amazed, startled and surprised to see… a normal notebook!

The brand, new X-series notebooks have powerful Intel Core i7 processors and high-performance Nvidia GeForce 700 Series graphics. The two different models include the 14-inch X450 and the 15 inch X550 and both are available with a spun metal finish and in five different colours. You can nab your X series notebook in red, blue, white, matte or glossy grey.

They may look and feel like ordinary notebooks, but with a name so reminiscent of the coolest mutants around, they surely offer something more? They do… They feature exclusive ASUS SonicMaster technology for better volume at a wider frequency range and with superb clarity. This means your audio isn’t just a tinny blur, but rather an immersive listening experience ideal for gaming, movies and music.

The touchpads are nice and big with ASUS Smart Gesture technology for easy control with Windows 8. You also get instant-on awesome with the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine II – it boasts a two second time from sleep mode. The X Series notebooks have up to two weeks of standby time and automatic save-to-disk data protection. This means they are rather brilliant for commuters on the go, or the home office, so when you get distracted by meetings or kids and the battery drops below 5%, your work is saved. A very useful feature indeed.

ASUS WebStorage is free and you get 32GB with the laptops for three years (nice), and the graphics and battery life have been optimised within an inch of their little component lives. As a neat, chic and compact notebook that can be taken with you on the run, work, commute, the ASUS X Series notebooks are a very sassy solution indeed.
