With the launch of each new product, ASUS reveals another facet to their design team and what inspires them. Often the designs that we see, the final products that gleam glossily on our tables, laps and desks have been inspired by something you honestly do not expect, by something utterly charming or crazy. And this piece is dedicated to all those moments where the ASUS Design team has been struck by inspiration…
The kit that (cough) inspired me to research this post were the two ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H monitors that pouted sexily at viewers at this year’s IFA 2012. And they were inspired by… wait for it…. Sundials. And the moment I said that you could instantly see how those curved bases with their polished loop and sharply graduated support looked exactly like, well, sundials.
The utterly gorgeous ASUS Bamboo collection is one of my personal favourites and one day I plan to own one of these ecologically sound devices that sports a unique bamboo exterior and could blend into the Amazon quite easily. These were part of the ASUS inspired by nature series and they really are exquisite.
The Lamborghini laptop is a gorgeous monster which has all the trademarks of its inspiration – the super fast car, the Lamborghini. Complete with the right paint, added grills, powerful specs and superb design, the ASUS Lamborghini notebook is almost exactly how you’d imagine the laptop version of the car would look.
How about the ASUS Eee PC Seashell which was inspired by the look of those gorgeous clamshell-type seashells that lie on white beaches in sunny climates. I know the advert made me drift off into a world of imagination on more than one occasion! The ASUS seashell Eee PC was a beauty and did have the feeling of a device that should be casually opened to write a novel on a sunny beach.
The P6-P7H55E was inspired by…. Waiiiit. Yes, by the halo that you see in a night time lunar eclipse. How cool is THAT? Honestly, this has to rate as my winner for the product design inspired by the coolest thing. How can you not love this beast, I ask you that?
There are so many different products by ASUS that have been created with a specific mood, object or style in mind, but I can’t cover them all here. These are just my favourites so please do weigh in with your personal choices. Go on, you know I’m listening…
