Earth needs better monitors
We’re never ones to shy away from a good display, and the new VS Series ASUS HQ just sent our way has definitely impressed us. It’s different from the recently-seen, style-centric Designo ML Series, in that the VSs have more of a sleeper-hit feel about them. Their design may not be as artistic or eye-catching, but they get the job done spectacularly well and the price is certainly attractive. In fact, the VS line is priced more as an entry-level offering, while retaining upmarket features and a decidedly ultra-slim form factor that won’t take up much space at all in your environment.
For one thing, the entire series provides a smart contrast ratio of 50,000,000:1 by using LED-backlit panels. These have excellent viewing angles, and as you can see in the following pic, even with your average smartphone camera from all kinds of angles in a normal office environment the image remains nice and bright with no bleed or fade. The panels are also mercury-free, the same ones now used in all ASUS LED-backlit panels.
Continuing the eco-friendly theme prevalent in many ASUS products, the VS Series maintains a low power use (max 32W when on, a mere 0.5W on standby), and it even includes the same Eco Mode we’ve encountered previously on the Designo MLs, for average 55% power savings overall.
The response time for these panels is a nippy 2ms, so they’re very good for gaming and Blu-ray movie watching, eliminating blur and artifacting. Add to this the inclusion of ASUS Splendid Video Technology image enhancement (with six preset picture modes) and you get a very complete product that’s a perfect value proposition for office work, home computing, multimedia and gaming.
VS Series monitors are available in 23”, 23.6” and 24” screen sizes. Let us know your thoughts, in the comments below.
