There’s a new sweet spot graphics card for gamers on a moderate budget – the special and limited edition GTX 560 448 Cores. This is an expanded version of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 GPU, featuring 448 CUDA cores instead of the normal 384. In terms of performance, this gives the new variant a slight edge over the reference 560, bringing it closer to the GTX 570.
The ASUS version comes with the dual DirectCU II fans and direct copper cooling, where the heat pipes contact the GPU directly. Power delivery components are also higher grade (Super Alloy Power), with capacitors, chokes, and MOSFETs more amenable to overclocking and heavy-load usage. Also included in the box is ASUS GPU Tweak, a beefed-up version of the company’s GPU tuning frontend that comes with more options and adjustable parameters than before. GPU Tweak has certain options that only work with ASUS cards, and allows for easier and more accessible overclocking.
Another important point to note is the I/O, which offers two DVI, one HDMI, and one DisplayPort. In SLI, this card can power up to three screens in 5760 x 1080, although not all games out there will support this kind of setup 100%. Also, like other DirectCU II graphics cards this one is quite hefty in size, and so you might want to keep three slots free if you’re thinking of putting it in your case.
The GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II from ASUS is a limited edition card, and doesn’t replace the mainstream GTX 560 offering. Getting one may prove a challenge in itself, so you better reserve early if you want one for the holidays!
