The fact that there is a fantastic tablet race on right now is no secret. There were over 80 tablets showcased at CES and ASUS threw some fabulous options into the pot. Also, the upcoming release of the iPad 2 is no big secret, nor is the fact that everyone is waiting to see how the CES goodies will match up to the new release.

However, the secret is something that the chairman of ASUS, Jonney Shih, hinted at during a recent interview with Computerworld. He mentioned that the four new tablets about to be launched by ASUS – the EP121, the Transformer, The Slider and the Memo – are only the beginning.

Apparently ASUS have something very tasty in the works, something that will definitely place the ASUS tablets up there with the leading brands. What this secret may be is up for debate and there certainly has been a lot of conjecture about it.

Could it be a cloud-based solution that turns their tablets into instant on-the-go powerhouses? Or will ASUS be launching a 3D Android Tablet? Your guess is as good as mine. It certainly does make the upcoming launches of these products a lot more exciting. Not that they needed anymore excitement. There is already a ton of drooling and impatient foot stamping by fans.

Certainly it is going to be a very interesting year for the tablet. The components included in upcoming launch tablets have to compete with Apple and have to deliver something special to the user. The iPad may have current market dominance but the limitations it imposes are not there for many of the other products about to launch.

So, when can we find out more? Well, we’ll have to wait until the second half of the year to get our fix. It may seem like a long time away but considering that it is already February, I’m thinking that the time will be upon us sooner than we think…
