Okay, so motherboards don’t set everyone’s world alight – but ASUS’ new P6X58D has set alight the world of motherboards.

It delivers so many new technologies that it’s hard to know where to start. However, a good on-ramp is the USB 3.0 support. Why? Because the P6X58D is the world’s first USB 3.0-enabled motherboard to be officially certified by the USB Implementation Forum (USB-IF). In other words, right now the P6X58D is the motherboard you need if you want USB 3.0.

But USB 3.0 is just the start for the P6X58D: it offers full support for Intel’s Core i7 (Socket 1366) processor, along with six DIMM slots – sufficient for an incredible 24GB of DDR3 RAM. ASUS’ TurboV technology, meanwhile, makes for easier overclocking.

But there’s still more. Two 6Gb/s SATA connectors, three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots and support for nVidia 3-way SLI and ATI quad-GPU technologies promote the P6X58D strasight to the top of the motherboard league table.

You’ll find the full specs here.
