ASUS has just released the VG248QE speciality gaming monitor with 24 inches of 1080p desktop real estate and some interesting extras, just for the gamer. The 144hz refresh rate, alongside the support for NVidia’s 3D Vision and a 1ms response time means that you’ve a crisp, sharp image and superb gaming quality.

Before I delve into the various specs of the ASUS VG248QE gaming monitor, I have to tell you my favourite part – the cable clip at the base. This has been designed so you can slip your cables through the column and avoid that cluttered, messy look that most gaming setups tend to have. Isn’t that awesome. It could be my inner tidiness freak, but little details like that really work for me.

So, back to the specs. I’ve already talked about how the 144Hz rapid refresh rate offers a substantial improvement on the image quality that you’d find on a standard monitor. If you check out the ASUS website they have the shot (below) showing the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz – it’s pretty impressive. And it is perfect for the picture geek.

It’s got 80,000,000:1 ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio – this drastically changes the quality of the colour in any image – and full HD support with 1920x1080p. ASUS have also added in Splendid Video Intelligence Technology for improved brightness, contrast, colour and sharpness. Basically, the entire VG248QE gaming monitor has been created for the gaming enthusiast who wants the ultimate in image quality. Far Cry 3 would look stunning on this.

Other features that stand out for me include the fact that the buttons are real, physical dudes as opposed to touch ones. The former are more efficient in my view, and I find them more to my personal taste. Perhaps it’s the old gaming fogey in me.

The kit itself has received some great feedback from sites like KitGuru where the refresh rate, lack of ghosting, and 3D gaming got very high marks indeed. The connectivity features are also excellent, as is the design of the monitor itself – very thin and unobtrusive without unnecessary décor or extras.

If you fancy getting into your 3D gaming, then this ASUS VG248QE gaming monitor could very well be worth looking into. Not yet available in the UK, this beauty is on its way.
