With the spotlight focused on the PadFone 2 and Windows 8-ready toys like the TAICHI, VivoBook, and VivoTabs over these past few weeks, we can be forgiven for overlooking some of the ‘less mobile” computing platforms out there.
Earlier this month, ASUS introduced the Windows 8-ready ET2701 All-in-One PC. The ET2701 features a 27-inch, 178° wide-view, 10-point capacitive touch VA panel and has been designed to optimize the user’s Windows 8 touch experience. The touch display gives users precise fingertip control over the interface, giving them the ability to manipulate and navigate through touch-optimized apps through intuitive pinch-zoom, swipe, and scroll gestures which are now the computing norm.
The 1920×1080 Full HD LED-backlit display with a high contrast ratio delivers life-like images; while the above mentioned VA panel eliminates colour shift on both horizontal and vertical planes.
Enhanced SonicMaster audio technology, DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC II technology and an external subwoofer add some aural ooomph to match the ET2701′s visual prowess. The former has been optimized by audio experts and comes with a finely-tuned digital signal processor that produces audio with near-zero distortion; in addition, DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC II technology helps deliver realistic, 3D surround sound. The external subwoofer has a 580cc resonance chamber dedicated to low frequency audio signals for a richer bass response.
The ET2701 comes with an optional Blu-ray combo drive as well as a TV-tuner card; along with two USB 3.0 ports and HDMI input to convert the ET2701 into a 27″ display for game consoles. VESA-mount compatibility also gives users the option of mounting their ET2701 onto a wall.
Hector
A former tech journalist with a local daily, Hector is an anomaly in the world of tech writers—he’s a skeptic, preferring to ask “Do we really need another (insert gadget here)?” instead of “I gotta have that new toy.” As a result, he often finds himself owning these gadgets only a year after their release. He wishes things were a whole lot simpler, like they were back in the 60s, even though he wasn’t even born then. Perhaps that explains why he’s dressed like the Fonz. Ayyyy!!
