In 11 days, some lucky Taiwanese folks will be the first in the world to enjoy the newest and most innovative smartphone to date – the ASUS PadFone.
The much anticipated ASUS PadFone was officially launched in Taiwan on April 5. The launch event was opened by ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih and was followed by a detailed product presentation by ASUS CEO Jerry Shen.
“I am very excited to deliver the ASUS PadFone into the hands of our customers. It is an ultra-savvy intelligent device that combines the function of a phone, a pad, as well as a notebook. It was built to offer users an unrivalled level of performance, customization and choice in how they connect with their digital world. Welcome to the future,” said Mr Shen.
Pre-orders in Taiwan started last week, with the PadFone being available at Chunghwa Telecom and Senao stores throughout Taiwan from April 20.
Plans are underway to release the PadFone in Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany and other European countries; although no official release dates for these markets were given. So it seems PadFone hopefuls from these countries will have to wait just that little bit longer.
The ASUS PadFone is a 4.3” smartphone featuring a Super AMOLED qHD display, and runs on a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S4 dual core 1.5GHz processor. It produces sharp images with its 8-megapixel digital camera coupled with a Fuji image processor, F/2.2 aperture, and a 5-element lens. The PadFone is also fully optimised for Google’s Android 4.0 operating system. With the optional PadFone Station, the PadFone can be transformed into a 10.1” tablet with up to 63 hours of extended talk time. If that’s not enough, the addition of keyboard dock essentially turns the PadFone into an ultraportable computing device, with an extended talk time of up to 102 hours.
Stay tuned for a first hand look of the ASUS PadFone in the coming weeks.
