ASUS got Mobile World Congress off to a rocking start on Monday with its “Incredibly Mobile, Endless Possibilities” press event at the Rock Museum in Barcelona, with ASUS chairman Jonney Shih unveiling the new PadFone and a new range of Transformer Pads to a 400-strong audience that comprised of VIPs and members of the world press.

“The time has finally arrived when every screen in your lives could transcend into a portal with real time access into your digital world,” said Mr. Shih as he introduced the revolutionary ASUS PadFone — a three-in-one combination of a smartphone, a tablet and a notebook.

The 4.3” PadFone is a smartphone that features a Super AMOLED qHD display, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera, and of course, Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The PadFone comes with the PadFone Station, which transforms it into a 10.1” tablet. The ASUS-exclusive Dynamic Display technology provides a seamless transition between the PadFone and PadFone Station display screens — letting you go from a 960 x540, 4.3” display to a 1280 x 800, 10.1” tablet display. When paired together, it becomes a tablet with 5 times the battery capacity.

And ASUS didn’t stop there; the PadFone Station comes with its own optional keyboard dock to turn the PadFone into an ultraportable computing device.

As a further nod to the company’s innovative design, Mr. Shih also placed a call to Qualcomm chairman and CEO Paul Jacobs (who just so happened to be backstage; he later joined Mr Shih onstage) on the optional PadFone Stylus Headset – a Bluetooth stylus pen which can be used to pick up calls.

Not to be left out, the ASUS Transformer Pad lineup was not to be outdone, with three distinct lines —the ASUS Transformer Pad Prime and upcoming ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity series and ASUS Transformer Pad 300 series designed to meet the needs of mobile media consumers.

We already know the Transformer Pad Prime, so let’s take a look at the other two. The Transformer Pad Infinity Series is a HD mobile entertainment tablet that features an impressive 1920×1200 Full HD Super IPS+ display and ASUS SonicMaster technology. The Transformer Pad 300 Series makes for an ideal mobile web and gaming platform NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 quad-core processor and 10.1” 1280×800 IPS display.

Stay tuned for a thorough review on these new toys soon.
