ASUS ENGTX590/3DIS/3GD5
Hot on the heels of AMD’s Radeon HD 6990 4GB, Nvidia has just launched its own game crunching, dual GPU Behemoth: the GeForce GTX 590.
Fitted with two, full 512-cored GF110 GPUs and 3GB of GDDR5 memory, the GeForce GTX 590 is clearly a formidable technological achievement. The large – dare I say ARES-esq – central fan sits aside two large copper vapour-chamber heatsinks that cool both GPUs. Two PCI-Express 8-pin power connectors are required to power this puppy, so make sure your PSU is up to the task. Although, even if it doesn’t have a second 8-pin connector ASUS includes an adapter to convert two 6-pins to one 8-pin in the box.
Display outputs include three DVI and one mini-Display port, and ASUS includes DVI to HDMI and DVI to d-sub adapters in the box as well.
Tech specs include a core clock of 612MHz, with the CUDA cores at 1,214MHz and the memory clock at 855MHz (3,420MHz effective) on a 384-bit memory interface. Since the retail GeForce GTX 580 is clocked at 772/1,544MHz, there’s clearly plenty of overhead in both those GF110 cores – providing the card can be kept cool, of course. Still if you want to try overclocking, ASUS includes its exclusive Voltage Tweak upgrade with the accompanying SmartDoctor software within Windows.
The card is SLI capable with another GeForce GTX 590 that’ll enable a quad-SLI powerhouse. Although, just one will be enough for triple monitor, Stereoscopic 3D if you’re appreciably flush and into the very best immersive gaming has to offer.
This card just received a recommend award over at UK tech website, bit-tech.net; read the full review here. Are you planning on buying an ENGTX590/3DIS/3GD5 for yourself? Let us know in the comments below!
