I love CES. It’s a bit like a giant, extra Christmas stocking for geeks. You get to unwrap all of these exciting ideas, to see some of the innovations in store and start saving up so you can actually buy some of them. This year ASUS has already been revealed as one of the Google TV partners, and the goodies have only just started to appear.
The ASUS Transformer AIO has been officially confirmed at CES this year and is an 18.4 inch touchscreen PC that offers the features of an all-in-one beside the features of a tablet. Initially seen by critics as something of an oddity, as an item that wouldn’t really go much further than its first reveal at Computex in 2012, this is now a reality. And what do you think?
Personally I love the idea. It takes the touchscreen features desperately needed for a seamless Windows 8 experience and puts them onto a screen that’s satisfyingly large and with plenty of processing power. What takes this device even further is that the dock does more than just provide a stand, it is a computer in its own right.
The ASUS Transformer AIO is two computers in one. For the dock you can select an i3, i5 or i7 processor which runs Windows 8, has all the requisite ports and connectivity, and a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The tablet runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, has 32GB of storage and an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. You can switch between the two operating systems with a press of a button.
There you have it. As of the CES reveal, this tablet is due for release in March and ASUS believe it will hit a sweet spot on the market. I am inclined to agree, especially considering the easy swap between the two OS and the storage. What do you think?
