At CeBIT earlier this year ASUS revealed the existence of the ASUS O!Play Blu-ray HD Media Player BDS-700 and today I am holding it in my hand. Well, both hands actually, as the O!Play BDS-700 is a rather heavy piece of kit. It feels sturdy, as if it can take some wear and tear. But more about that later…
The O!Play BDS-700 Blu-ray HD Media Player is something of a mouthful in more than just its name. What you have here is a slice of technology that has a bunch of functionalities and features to make your home entertainment that much more, well, entertaining.
Over the next few weeks I am going to be marching this O!Play BDS-700 media player through as many paces and routines as possible. It may not escape unscathed but it will definitely reveal all its secrets.
I love unwrapping boxes of kit so unboxing the ASUS O!Play BDS-700 was hardly a chore. Yes, this is the lovely box in which the ASUS O!Play BDS-700 arrives. Exciting stuff!
Inside you’ll find the Owner’s Manual, warranty, a quick start guide, the O!Play itself and a mysterious black box.
Aha! The mysterious black box inside the ASUS O!Play BDS-700 packaging is the very comprehensive remote control and the power cable. The remote looks rather good but we shall be examining that in far more detail in a later post.
Oooh, here lies the ASUS O!Play BDS-700 herself, neatly cocooned in white packing material and ready to go. What I have really liked so far is the fact that the entire box consists of minimal packaging materials and out of them all only one or two cannot be recycled. A very nice green ASUS touch…
Hidden behind the front flap panel is the display and the Blu-ray, a neat touch that will limit glow and light pollution while you are using the ASUS O!Play BDS-700.
Oh, hello connectivity. The rear of the ASUS O!Play BDS-700 media player reveals all the connectivity you need to get started. HDMI, coaxial and optical output, USB 2.0, LAN and Audio.
Ah, there is the complete back view of the ASUS O!Play BDS-700 media player with all the ports and power points revealed. This is going to be a lot of fun to set up and enjoy! In my next article I plan to do a set-up test run with a timer to see how quickly I can hook this up to my TV.
