As we saw in last week’s teaser, the PadFone 2 is being announced today, October 16, 2012, in Milan (UTC +2). For those lucky enough to be at the event, be sure to take photos! For the rest of us, check out the livestream here from 11am Milan time.
This latest iteration has a lot to live up to. The original PadFone was announced at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, and immediately became a hit. It went on to win the Golden Award under the Smart Handheld Devices Innovation category, and received several media plaudits:
“If modular computing is the future, ASUS is trying to get a head start with the PadFone. . . . I’m fascinated by the concept” – TIME
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the future” – Engadget
The original PadFone featured a 4.3″ Super AMOLED qHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, as well as an 8-megapixel camera for taking fabulous photos. When the PadFone is docked in the PadFone station, it is transformed into a full-fledged 10.1 tablet, with 1280 x 800 resolution for media consumption. You can go one step further and connect the tablet into a keyboard dock to turn the PadFone into an ultraportable computing device.
Be sure to check back in a couple of hours for the livestream. And for those who missed it the first time round, here’s the link again- http://event.asus.com/2012/Padfone2/
