Last week I introduced the first in the awesome ASUS series that shows you how to build your own custom PC. It makes the whole experience really easy without being patronising, and I’ve found it lots of fun. The motherboard we’ve used is the ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe, the latest offering from the masters in motherboard creation.
In this episode the team is focusing on cases and connectors and how to insert the various elements such as the I/0 shield. This can often be a bit confusing when you’re first starting out with building your own PC but when you see it done here, you’ll probably end up staring suspiciously at geeks and thinking, “Hold on, it isn’t that hard!”
Next up you’ll be shown how to keep the motherboard away from the case using the brass risers. These come separately with the ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard but you do get a cool tool included in the box to help you screw them in nice and tightly. The video also talks you through installing the power supply, hooking that up to the motherboard, the wiring, and the case fans.
I have to admit that I rather like the fact that the ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard comes with this lovely plastic doodad for sorting out your wiring. Hands up who else hates trying to bend in awkward directions while sorting those out? Yeah, me too…
By now you should have a very nice looking PC starting to take shape under your suddenly expert hands and in the next piece we’re going to take the custom built PC even further. How are you doing with yours? Please do share any of your tips and tricks for building a custom PC as we’d love to hear them.
