For those of you looking to set up or augment a professional home entertainment centre, the new BDS-700 is a definite eye-popper. We recently had some time with the product, and a video came out, which you can check out below. However, it’s the features that make the difference, and the BDS-700 bristles with them.
First of all, it’s a dual-use product, serving as a fully-loaded Blu-ray player for fans of disc-based HD, plus it works as a media player, with Wi-Fi and an impressive 45 media formats supported. The BDS-700 is also DLNA compatible. Combined with its wireless capabilities, that renders it a great fit in your multimedia environment, as it can easily talk to other devices and provide access to online content/services.
In terms of specs, the BDS-700 uses Qdeo technology from Marvell, which does wonders to clean up images, sharpen edges, remove artifacts, and enhance colour depth. The BDS-700 can also upscale your older DVDs on the fly, taking them up to 1080p for improved clarity. Likewise, in the sound department there’s a Cirrus Logic audio processor on the board, enabling very clear audio – 115dB SNR, actually, which is definitely an audiophile pleaser. Surround is a lossless 7.1-channel arrangement, with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
On the back you have gold-plated component and coax connectors, an upgraded power plug to support high-wattage hi-fi component hook ups, and dual HDMI: one 1.3 port for audio (or general HDMI use), and one 1.4a port for high-end HD video.
Everything’s accessible through the customary O!Play user-friendly and simple interface, and the remote control is backlit if you’re fond of doing your multimedia in the dark.
Take a look at the video and let us know what you think of this cool home entertainment component. We love it!
