The long awaited Eee Pad Transformer is a mere days away! DAYS! I kid not – while we’ll run you through a few pictures here, it’s best to keep an eye on the Facebook page which will have competitions and videos in the run up to the official announcement

Having had their blood mostly replaced by caffeine in the last few weeks, the Eee Pad team has put together an updated Eee fan-page on Facebook where you can communicate directly with them, as well as the Eee Pad Transformer Facebook app page that is set to have a prize-draw competition, a price-drop challenge and exclusive video series in the build-up to its launch. They did all this and get the product finished, made, shipped out and in store ready for its global launch dates! Crazy!

If you’re unsure of why such a fuss is being made about the Eee Pad Transformer, and why you should consider one over the fruitier iPad 2, for example, let me highlight it’s two fundamental benefits: Freedom and Choice.

ASUS Eee Pad - due very soon!

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer - due very soon!

Freedom encompasses many requested functions that other many tablets still fail to address. For example; use of USB thumb drives; to have a proper HDMI port built in (no extra adapter cost); all day battery life; WiFi and 3G options; and to finally getting freedom from overzealous control, yet still having the benefits of a tablet-centric OS (Google Android 3.0 ‘Honeycomb’) as well as ASUS’ own software innovations, such as Wave Share, added into the mix as well. Most of all, to be able to have your cake and eat it: The transformer is both a tablet and a netbook, giving you the choice which to use, depending on your day to day needs. If you’re tempted and curious about using a tablet but still need the benefits of a full keyboard – it’s an ideal bridge between both worlds.

Check out the Facebook page linked above for continual updates over the next few weeks, but once I wrestle one away from the team, we’ll be posting our own close-ups, unboxing and breakdown on here as well.

As ever please let us know in the comments below if you’re interested in an Eee Pad - however if you have more specific questions about it I’d encourage dropping onto the Facebook page to ask the team directly! We’ll be back soon with more details on the specs, discussion about the videos and even more photos after I find my ninja suit to steal it back again…
