Don’t you wish your netbook was hot like me?

Apologies for the terrible one handed iPhone shakycam, but EAT was out and about earlier this week and relied – for the first time – entirely on a tablet (an Eee Pad Transformer) for doing serious business stuff. Is it possible? Well, yes it is. And much better than using a netbook too.

We’ll write up the experience in more detail later, but in the meantime anyone who wants to know what the Eee Transformer is like for working on the go, here’s a few rough clips of it starting instantly, typing into Polaris Office, multitasking and detaching from the keyboard.

    I’ve been sceptical about the whole tablet hype, But now the Asus Eee pad transformer has come along it’s a product that most certainly makes sense!

    I love this product and will be buying 2 (1 for me and 1 for my girlfriend) as soon as money and availability allow.

    Why other manufacturers have not seen the obviousness of the very nice click on keyboard giving more battery life and storage capacity is a mystery. I’m absoloutley 100% sure that they will be all climbing onboard now!

    A big boost for the Android Honeycomb market as well… Quality useful products like this can only massively boost applications

    This is really the most attractive tablet for me at the moment. Unless something even better and equally cheap suddenly pops up I’m getting a transfromer come summer.

    Really promising product, once the Android 3.0 Honeycomb apps catch up with the Apple ones then I think it will give the iPad some serious competition. Much better than a standard netbook, especially for working on the go.

     What’s the typical battery life on an Asus Transformer?  And how easy is it to root and install new roms?

    Being able to use this for work as I travel during the day and then as an entertainment  device in the evening, makes it an easy sales pitch to the wife. As nice as the tablet is it’s the dock that makes this a winner in my book. Now if I could just find one….

    I wish my laptop wasn’t so hot… it’s burning my balls as I type this. Nice in the winter, not so much in pyjamas. The Eee Pad is splendid indeed.

    I’ve been eagerly watching the various honeycomb enabled tablets as they are released, comparing the specs one against the other and the asus transformer is argueably the best of the bunch thus far. teh extende dbattery and memory expansion available int he keyboard dock make this an appealing alternative to a remote workstation. Definately looking into this one as soon as possible.

    Looking at the features it’s clear this one has the best shot at being an iPad killer. My likes are: the fantastic keyboard dock that gives it a netbook-type form factor; the microSD card slot in the tablet section, 2 USB ports and an SD card slot in the keyboard section. Lackings are: no connector to TV and I don’t know if my Samsung flat screen (5300) can receive wifi signals from this–I think it can’t.

    I only wish Android can up their game to match the OS on the iPad. Right now I’m in 2 minds and still wavering towards the iPad simply because of the much more stylish and intuitive OS, despite the terrible lmitations on memory expansion etc.

    I will LOVE any screen that works well in the sunlight (the Kindle type being ideal) and the Transformer’s overall design is simply superb.

    The Transformer might be the one to beat this year. And from what I’ve seen so far…nobody is doing it.

    Hi, following on my earlier comment: I visited Carrefour again yesterday (at Mall of the Emirates, Dubai) and this time a merchandiser was not only present, he was very knowledgeable too. Better still, there was a display piece available and anyone could try it out. So I did, just to dispense with any doubts I was entertaining. We had a long discussion, and I even mentioned the comment I had made on this forum. He looked worried for a second.

    However, as I expected, they were already selling better, with some folks picking them up, others gawking, asking questions etc.

    As for me, here’s my problem: I need it for the 3rd of July (wife’s b’day–she’s no geek and could do with one of these) but here I am wondering if they’ll still have stocks closer to that date. Or should I get one now and stash it away? I’m more or less convinced this is the one (original idea was to get her an iPad–the thought of a white one in a white leather cover was simply too tempting, but now it’s increasingly clear the Apple product hasn’t got much of an advantage. I still like the iPad interface and touch responsiveness though).

    Any suggestions, people on this forum?

    (Also: think there’ll be an updated version before that date?)

    I have done my research…. asus eee pad transformer is by far THE BEST! Would love to have one…. since I didn’t get one for father’s day. :-(
