2010 has been a pretty phenomenal year in terms of tech and the divine gadgets that have sidled onto the shelves. I’ve been entranced by developments in the netbook market, especially the lanch of the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM – the world’s first netbook to boast the dual-core Intel Atom N550.
The 1015PEM has had rave reviews from tech pundits and offers blistering speeds in a fantastically portable and stylish shell. Definitely a development to watch over 2011.
Then ASUS tackled the issue of sound in laptops by forging a unique alliance with Bang & Olufsen and including both their patented SonicMaster technology and Bang & Olufsen’s ICEPower in the N-series laptops. The N53J laptop got some major kudos from Expert Reviews earlier this month.
It’s about time that somebody paid attention to the sound on portable tech. I have spent many frustrating hours on public transport grumbling about shoddy sound and lack of sound related features. There is no reason why laptops shouldn’t boast quality audio and the overwhelmingly positive response to the N-series shows that most people agree.
Another great development was the Eee DR900 e-reader that offers a bunch of features in a neat design. It is a great step forward for us book lovers after a year that saw quite a few of these devices launched amble onto the scene. Of all of them I have to confess to finding the feature set of the DR900 the most impressive.
I also had the good fortune of being able to watch some of the entries into the PRIDE competition where motherboard geniuses compiled videos that boasted of their passion for tech. I am constantly amazed by how much power and performance some people can get out of their machines.
While that competition winds down, the hype and wonder of CES is beginning to emerge. ASUS have already leaked some teaser shots of their new Eee Pads and tablets and the newswires are buzzing about them. Thin, sexy, and excitingly different, these slices of tech are going to have an interesting impact on the market in 2011.
Which leads me to my headline – the resolutions of 2011 – what are yours? Do you resolve to take better care of your tech? Or are you determined to save up enough moolla to nab the tech of your dreams? Mine is simple, to try not to get every single cool gadget in existence because, quite honestly, I’m running out of space…
