The world has lost a true master designer on November 8, when David Lewis passed away at the age of 72. Here at ASUS, we have also lost a true friend and partner, as Mr. Lewis worked very closely with the entire ASUS family on the creation and development of several high-profile products that received much acclaim, both popular and media-wise. His contributions to industrial design will never be forgotten, having developed not only his own studio in Copenhagen, but a distinct style. Mr. Lewis put great stock in clean, modern, and powerful creations that were often described as “Nordic”. While understanding the importance of function, Mr. Lewis also had a highly adventurous side that pioneered previously-unseen shapes and concepts, resulting in actual products that pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved in trailblazing design while retaining user comfort.

Thank you so much, Mr. Lewis!

I don’t want to use this as an opportunity to promote products, but rather to showcase the hard work and great talent Mr. Lewis brought to the fore. With ASUS, he worked on revising the N Series of laptops with a completely new, sweeping look. He also crafted the monumentally gorgeous NX90 multimedia laptop, and designed the unique David Lewis ASUS mouse. All of these show the dedicated and passion put forth by Mr. Lewis, as nothing like them was ever available before he made them a reality.

One of the most respected industrial designers in the world, Mr. Lewis headed his own studio, and was especially well-known as the primary creative force behind audio products from Bang & Olufsen, a brand frequently cited as one of the most avant garde when it comes to functional yet completely new design.

Many at ASUS had a chance to meet Mr. Lewis in person during our relationship, which makes this even harder. Losing his creative genius is tragic, but his legacy will live on and his influence on future designs is assured. Our condolences go to his family, friends, and co-workers.

Rest in peace, David, and thanks for everything!
