The 3D revolution continues as more 3D movies are set to hit the big screen in the coming weeks with Alice in Wonderland , How to Train Your Dragon, and Clash of the Titans in 3D.
The same can be said of the 3D monitor market; with ASUS having just introduced three new models that are set to deliver 3D images to homes everywhere.
The VG236H, PG246H, and PG276H were well-received at CeBIT, and a flurry of online posts followed— with speculation rife on the monitors’ release dates and price points.
With history as a guide, I’m pretty sure they’re going to cost some serious coin. Just take a look at the LCD and LED technologies when they first hit the market, but it is a small price to pay if you want to be an early adopter.
But as always, the market will develop, more players will vie for the piece of the pie, and prices head south.
Gizmodo’s Kat Hannaford believes that ASUS prices its products very fairly, and speculates that despite 3D being relatively new technology, the company is going to place it at an affordable price point.
Sanjin Rados at Fudzilla predicts that the PG276H should be $200 to $300 more than a comparable 27-inch non-3D monitor. I’m willing to bet that he’s probably right.
ASUS has revealed that the VG236H will hit the market in May, although its availability may vary by region. It will be priced at US$599 and will come bundled with NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses.
The VG236H LCD monitor supports dual-link DVI connectivity to deliver 3D playback in Full HD 1920×1080, while ADFR Technology doubles frame rates to 120Hz.
ASUS has also announced that the 23.6-inch PG246H and 27-inch PG276H 3D monitors which will hit the markets at the end of the year, again its availability may vary by region.
So you might want to keep your fingers crossed.
