Play it again – in HD: ASUS O!Play HD2
ASUS has recently added to its lineup of media and entertainment centres, the O!Play range. The latest entry is called O!Play HD2, and the emphasis for this product is definitely on online capabilities. On top of introducing more interconnectivity, it’s also incorporating greater storage potential.
O!Play HD2 offers a multi-format device that can pretty much run all major video, audio and image content types, which can be added to with the online update function the device ships with. It’s also the world’s first media-specific device with USB 3.0, the latest iteration of the standard, which works up to ten times faster than USB 2.0.
With standard 3.5″ hard drive support, O!Play HD2 can accept any compatible hard drive users wish to add, and can therefore work just fine as external storage in NAS (Network Attached Storage) configuration. This is made all the more appealing with built-in jukebox, iTunes, Samba and FTP server modes.
DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatibility ensures easy interconnectivity with a slew of compatible devices, so you could easily integrate O!Play HD2 into any home network or home entertainment setup. It may be a small box, but the potential here is significant.
