The ASUS Eee PC 1015PW

We previously reported on the Intel’s first N550 dual-core netbook: the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM, that launched last month, and detailed why it gives true portability at 10″, without sacrificing on CPU horsepower or hours of battery-life. The colours available at launch for the 1015PEM included expressive reds and blue, but the overall design followed a the regular ASUS netbooks we’ve seen before. Nothing wrong with that, but not everyone wants normal.

Get with the flow~~~

Using the same Intel N550 dual-core hardware as the 1015PEM, the 1015PW gets a styled new look and expressive set of colours. The wave design fits as a natural extension of the current Seashell curved casing,  with even the tiny ventilation holes underneath getting in on the flowing treatment. Admittedly the colour scheme is clearly aimed at the feminine audience, with a deep ‘Purple Rain’, strong ‘Gold Dust’ and gentler ‘Angel Skin’ being the only options available, but let’s be honest here, men usually opt for the safety net of black, white and silver.

In a world where self-expression through fashion is so acceptable, why not your netbook too? The market full of ‘Atom netbooks’ so this is not just differentiation; it’s an expressive – nay – impressive and bold change that doesn’t have to look like a computer. That’s a genuinely appealing option for some.

And the tech is still good too:

Like the 1015PEM, the 1015PW is not ‘all looks no brains’ and thankfully doesn’t skimp on the hardware inside. It’s packing an impressive 10 hours of battery life thanks in part to its unique Super Hybrid Engine moderating the power use, and it also comes with an ergonomic chiclet keyboard with respectively large touchpad underneath.

Other hardware includes a the latest 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 standards, a large 250GB/320GB hard drive (depending on the option) plus another 500GB of online ASUS Webstorage to dive into too. To round things off there’s also ASUS’ ExpressGate fast booting OS, ‘F9′ failsafe system recovery, a webcam with camera cover, card reader and a finally a 1024×600 LED backlit LCD screen as well.
