BT has recently sponsored a survey led by the University of Cambridge and it discovered that apparently one in three people has felt overwhelmed by communications technology. This includes texting, emailing, and social networking.

While many of us here on Family Style wonder if we would survive for 24 hours without any form of technology, or access to our email, it is sadly true that these elements are pervading family life.

The key findings of the survey outlined how people from various age groups feel overwhelmed by communications technology and, as a result, are less satisfied with life as a whole. It showed that people who felt in control of their use of technology were a lot happier with their lot.

Interestingly, the survey also pointed out that kids prefer to communicate face to face and that 36 percent of parents found technology disruptive for family life.

So, what’s the solution? Do we bin our Eee Pad Transformers, sell our homes and start living in hemp garments on a vegetarian compound? The answer is, according to BT, to follow a balanced technology diet.

Like anything, technology is awesome in moderation. Plugged into the network 24/7 is not healthy for either you or your kids, but abandoning it entirely is hardly reasonable either. So, have a gander at the suggested balanced diet that BT have on offer, adapt it to your lifestyle, and find out if technology becomes even more of a pleasure as a result.

What do you think? Is this just another survey that doesn’t say anything, or do you agree that technology must be balanced out or it will become a negative force in the family?
