Recently I wrote about the dramatic recall of the Intel 6 series support chip and how ASUS had stepped in to provide their customers with instant support over the issue. Now it appears that things are moving on and there are some changes afoot.
If you were one of the unlucky ones who had to endure a return, a wait, or a panicked phone call, then you will be very happy to hear that the updated Intel 6 series-based motherboards will begin shipping out this week.
Intel started to send out the fixed Sandy Bridge core processors yesterday and many of the manufacturers have already seen them land at their doors. ASUS are clearly working flat out to ensure that their motherboards are among the first to boast the new and improved processors.
They are also keen to avoid making their customers wait any longer than they already have for their lovely, shiny new motherboards.
In order to help people distinguish the revised motherboards from the old ones, there will be a label saying, “New B3 Revision” displayed on the products concerned. You should also see this label on packaging and you can verify it through the onboard sticker, BIOS, ASUS SATA Verifier or CPUIDs CPU-Z utility.
ASUS have actually gone ahead and created the ASUS SATA Verifier specifically for this situation. I think this is pretty darn cool. The utility has been designed to help customers identify unaffected SATA 6Gb/s ports. Talk about making sure that every last detail has been seen to!
