The Nexus 7 was one of the top selling devices last year and has had everyone clamouring for one of their own. This ASUS-made device offered superb Android functionality within a compact, light and sturdy shell. Now ASUS have revealed the ASUS Memo Pad HD7 with many similarities to the Nexus 7, but with some very nice extras popped in for luck.
The first thing worth noting about the Memo Pad HD 7 is the price. In a market where tablets and ultraportables cost a pretty penny, this particular device will sit at the low end of the budget market. When you consider ASUS’ track record in producing high-quality products in this arena, the price point should have you rubbing your hands together with glee.
The Memo Pad HD 7 also comes in a variety of colours. This is a very sweet extra actually, especially when they’ve given some thought to the choice. There’s black, white, pink and green – a colour for all moods and tastes really.
This tablet weighs 302g, has a Quad Core 1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM and internal storage to the value of either 8GB or 16GB. The latter affecting the cost a bit, but by so little that investing in the 16GB model is a good financial choice. The screen is, obviously, seven inches with a high resolution of 1280×800, perfect for games and multimedia entertainment as well as some of that work stuff we all have to do…
The Memo Pad HD 7 also has two cameras – one rear-facing at 1.2 megapixels and one forward facing at 5 megapixels. Not too shabby, and somewhat better than the very low resolution and relatively pointless forward facing camera on the Nexus 7.
The device is chic, compact, robust and has plenty of cool features to make it a fun toy and a work management tool while on the move. It’s going to be very interesting to see the uptake on this gadget, especially at the predicted price point.
