ASUS HQ hosted several of the world’s leading overclockers in an intense five-day Absolute Zero marathon between June 25-29 2012. This marathon was dedicated to breaking world performance records and the overclockers in attendance were; Fredyama-san, Rsannino, Viss, Splave, and Hazzan. They were joined by ASUS and ROG overclocking maestros Andre Yang, Raja, and Shamino.
ROG hardware, such as the Maximus V Extreme and Rampage IV Extreme motherboards, were put through their paces alongside ASUS GTX 680 and ROG MATRIX 7970 graphics cards. This event was the first ever where liquid helium was used to overclock an Intel-based system, and that stuff is really expensive! The liquid nitrogen flowed freely and the collective effort resulted in a few new overclocking world records, listed here with links:
- SuperPi by Andre Yang, 5 seconds 140ms with Intel® Core™ i7-3770K on ROG Maximus V Extreme at 7023MHz

To celebrate the successful completion of Absolute Zero, the team put together this cool (pun intended) video, which illustrates the great time had by all:
Absolute Zero@ASUS overclocking event
So, many thanks to the guest overclockers for making the trip and to ASUS and ROG team members for making the event possible.
Stay tuned for even more community interaction and outreach from ASUS and ROG! They have some exciting things in the pipeline…
Suds McSoapdish
Thirty years ago, toddler Suds got his first taste of just how enjoyable technology can be when his parents gave him an Atari 2600. He soon picked up on the wonders of the Commodore 64, and the rest is history in the form of a long list of consoles, 80’s home computers and PCs built and assembled with great fervor. Writing and technology gradually moved up from hobbies to professions as Suds became the man he is today, and although he’s worked and traveled the world and experienced many things, technology, especially computing and gaming, has remained a solid constant.
