Computing and cars have a long history together, because the two use similar philosophies, based on getting more speed and performance out of ever-limited resources. There’s also the common theme of luxury branding, and the upcoming ASUS-Lamborghini VX7 performance laptop certainly fits the bill in both regards.

It’s the result of a sort of joint venture between ASUS and the supercar maker, with the laptop taking many design hints from Lamborghini’s motorized powerhouses. This bullish approach to portable PCs we expect to win many a folk over, but just like the cars please do keep in mind going out and about in one of these is not for the timid privacy seeker.

So what’s under the hood?

Right now the specs for the ASUS-Lamborghini VX7 remain shrouded in mystery for the most part, and we expect them to change so don’t take what’s to follow as definite, just an indication of the direction engineers have decided to pursue. Even the colors shown may change by the time the actual laptop ships.

The laptop should have the Intel PM55 or HM55 chipset, with up to 16GB of DDR3 memory, which equals a lot of horsepower. It’ll be able to fit two hard drives, so we figure a total 1TB storage capability, much like the G73. Also, Blu-ray inclusion seems likely, and we hear this will have the new generation mobile graphics solution from NVIDIA on board. The screen should be a 15.6 incher.

But the key concept with the ASUS-Lamborghini VX7 is design, and as you can see from the pics, there’s a lot of the car in the computer. Those rear vents should do the trick, so from observing what we have here, one can surmise this laptop’s intended application has to do with high performance – i.e. gaming. The G73 is an impressive gamer, as we’ve already told you, so expect the ASUS-Lamborghini VX7 to implement many of the advantages of that success.

Maybe they’ll send us one so we can show it off in a series of videos – here’s to hoping!
